GET A CLOSER LOOK AT THE GAME!!

The New Jersey Jackals are seeking help from the community for our players. We are searching for host families in northern NJ to provide rooms for the players for the 2010 season. A host family provides a room in their home from the beginning of May through the middle of September. Host families are not responsible for meals.

JACKALS SIGN FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE INFIELDER

The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of former Major League infielder Abraham Nunez for the 2010 season.

Nunez made his Major League debut in 1997 with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he appeared in 19 games. In 2001, Nunez became the Pirates starting Shortstop playing in 115 games. In 2007, Nunez helped the Philadelphia Phillies win the NL East pennant. Over his 12 year Major League career, Nunez appeared in 1030 games with a career batting average of .249. His last Major League appearance was in 2008 as a member of the New York Mets.

START SPREADING THE NEWS: 'MILES' MYRON LESLIE A YANKEE

The New Jersey Jackals have sold infielder Myron Leslie to the New York Yankees organization. He becomes the fourth Jackals player from the 2009 roster to sign with a Major League organization this off-season.

Leslie, a Riverview, FL native, excelled for the Jackals in 2009. Leslie batted .271 with a team leading 18 home runs and 75 RBI. Leslie was a top contender in the Can-Am league for nearly every hitting statistic which helped him earn two Batter of the Week Awards for the weeks ending July 26 and August 23. Leslie’s hot start to the 2009 season earned him the Batter of the Month award for the month of June.

The Jackals wish Myron Leslie the best of luck for the 2010 season.

EX-MAJOR LEAGUER JOINS JACKALS' MIDDLE INFIELD

The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of former Major League infielder Enrique Cruz for the 2010 season.

Cruz, 28, played 60 games for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2003 where he played most of his time as a defensive replacement. In 2007, Cruz returned to the Major League with the Cincinnati Reds when he played 6 in games as a defensive replacement. Cruz last played professionally in the 2008 season.

TALL ORDER: JACKALS SELL POMERANZ TO ROCKIES

The New Jersey Jackals have announced that pitcher Stuart Pomeranz has been sold to the Colorado Rockies organization.

Pomeranz was the home opening day starter for the New Jersey Jackals in 2009 where he started the season off with a bang in a six inning four hit performance allowing only one run. In 16 games, Pomeranz was 5-6 with a 6.50 ERA. He had 48 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings pitched.

FORMER JACKAL, WORLD CHAMPION SIGNS WITH DODGERS

The New Jersey Jackals have announced that former outfielder Timo Perez has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He will report to spring training on February 25th.

Perez joined the Jackals on August 13th for the Jackals stretch run and playoff series against the Worcester Tornadoes. In 23 games, Timo had a .338 batting average with five doubles, one triple and 17 RBI. Timo’s success continued into the playoff series against the Worcester Tornadoes where he hit for a .333 batting average in the three game series.

SPEEDY OUTFIELDER RETURNS

The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of outfielder Ryan Rogowski for the 2010 season.

Rogowski excelled in 74 games for the Jackals in the 2009 season. Ryan had a .282 batting average with 11 doubles, six triples and four home runs with 32 RBI. He also dominated on the base path with 28 stolen bases while only getting caught six times. Rogowski also appeared in the Can-Am League leaders where he finished second in triples and second in stolen bases.

PITTSFIELD PROPOSED AS SIXTH MEMBER OF CAN-AM LEAGUE

In a vote of league directors of the Can-Am League, preliminary approval was given for the transfer of the membership of the American Defenders of New Hampshire from Nashua, NH, to Pittsfield, Massachusetts for play in the 2010 season. Final approval will need to come from the city for use of Wahconah Park with a decision expected by early January.

Several Jackals alumni are making names for themselves in affiliated minor league teams this season. Since the beginning of the 2006 season, 17 former Jackals players have signed with major league organizations.

Left-hander Craig Breslow is currently a relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics after beginning the 2009 season with the Minnesota Twins.
