NO 'HICK'-UPS: JACKALS RESIGN KEY RELIEF PITCHER
The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of pitcher Romas Hicks for the 2010 season.
“I’m glad to be invited back.” Commented Romas Hicks, “With several teammates hopefully returning, I’m excited to finish what we started [in 2009] and bring a championship home to New Jersey.”
Hicks, the right-handed Loganville, GA native, excelled for the New Jersey Jackals in 2009. In 28 games, Romas had a 4-2 record with one save and a 1.85 ERA. Hicks struck out an outstanding 57 batters in only 39 innings of work, ranking him third on the Jackals and first among Jackals relief pitchers.
“We are very excited to have Romas back for the 2010 season,” stated Jackals field manager Joe Calfapietra. “We hope he can continue his dominance out of the bullpen and we look forward to the great things we expect out of Romas in 2010.”
Hicks was a 22nd round pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2006 after graduating college at Georgia State University. Due to injury, Romas never pitched for the Royals organization. In the 2010 offseason, Hicks pitched for the Seminole County Naturals of the Florida Winter Baseball League. In seven games Hicks had a 1-0 record and a 1.04 ERA with 8 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.
