TALL ORDER: JACKALS SELL POMERANZ TO ROCKIES

Little Falls, NJ – The New Jersey Jackals have announced that pitcher Stuart Pomeranz has been sold to the Colorado Rockies organization.

Pomeranz was the home opening day starter for the New Jersey Jackals in 2009 where he started the season off with a bang in a six inning four hit performance allowing only one run. In 16 games, Pomeranz was 5-6 with a 6.50 ERA. He had 48 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings pitched.

“We are very excited for Stuart.” Manager Joe Calfapietra commented. “It is great to see Stuart get another chance in affiliated baseball and get one step closer to achieving his dream of playing in the major leagues.”

Pomeranz, who was drafted out of high school in the second round of the 2003 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, missed the entire 2008 season after undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery in July 2007. The 6’7” right-hander led the St. Louis organization with 12 wins in 2004 and was ranked by Baseball America as the Cardinals fifth-best prospect in 2005.

With the signing of Pomeranz, the Jackals have now had 18 players sign with a major league organization since the beginning of the 2006 season. Timo Perez (Los Angeles), Guillermo Reyes (Arizona) and John Lindsey (Los Angeles) are playing at the Triple-A level. Jemel Spearman (Washington) and Chris Garcia (Pittsburgh Pirates) are playing at the Double-A level. Jason Wylie (Philadelphia), Raul Valdes (New York Mets), Alex Fernandez (Pittsburgh), Jaime Cerda (Seattle), Brad Voyles (Florida), Tom Atlee (Milwaukee), Rusty Tucker (Milwaukee), Sandy Madera (Boston), Michael Vicaro (Arizona), Randy Rapp (Oakland), Hunter Davis (Tampa Bay) and Isaac Pavlik (Chicago Cubs) have returned to the Independent Leagues after playing at various levels in affiliated leagues.

The Jackals wish Stuart Pomeranz the best of luck for the 2010 season.
