START SPREADING THE NEWS: 'MILES' MYRON LESLIE A YANKEE

Little Falls, NJ – The New Jersey Jackals have sold infielder Myron Leslie to the New York Yankees organization. He becomes the fourth Jackals player from the 2009 roster to sign with a Major League organization this off-season.

Leslie, a Riverview, FL native, excelled for the Jackals in 2009. Leslie batted .271 with a team leading 18 home runs and 75 RBI. Leslie was a top contender in the Can-Am league for nearly every hitting statistic which helped him earn two Batter of the Week Awards for the weeks ending July 26 and August 23. Leslie’s hot start to the 2009 season earned him the Batter of the Month award for the month of June.

“We are very excited for Myron.” Manager Joe Calfapietra commented. “He is a class act both on and off the field and it is great to see Myron get another chance in affiliated baseball and get one step closer to achieving his dream of playing in the major leagues.”

Leslie, a 2004 eighth round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics, enters his seventh professional season after spending the 2007 and 2008 seasons at the Double-A level with the Midland RockHounds. In 108 games in 2008, Leslie batted .248 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI. The Florida native showed his defensive versatility with 60 games at third base, 28 in the outfield, eight at first base, and seven at second base in 2008. In 2006, the University of South Florida product finished second in the Single-A California League with 100 RBI.

Leslie joins his 2009 Jackals teammates Timo Perez (Los Angeles), Chris Garcia (Pittsburgh), and Stuart Pomeranz (Colorado), as players to sign with a Major League organization this off-season. Leslie also becomes the 19th Jackals player to sign since the beginning of the 2006 season.

The Jackals wish Myron Leslie the best of luck for the 2010 season.
