JACKALS SIGN FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE INFIELDER

Little Falls, NJ – The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of former Major League infielder Abraham Nunez for the 2010 season.

Nunez played for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League in 2009. Nunez had a .249 batting average in 84 games with eight doubles, two triples and 32 RBI.

“We are extremely excited to have Abraham for the 2010 season.” Commented Manager Joe Calfapietra. “He will be a great addition to the team and we hope his experience in the Major League will translate into leadership in the clubhouse.”

Nunez made his Major League debut in 1997 with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he appeared in 19 games. In 2001, Nunez became the Pirates starting Shortstop playing in 115 games. In 2007, Nunez helped the Philadelphia Phillies win the NL East pennant. Over his 12 year Major League career, Nunez appeared in 1030 games with a career batting average of .249. His last Major League appearance was in 2008 as a member of the New York Mets.
