DEJESUS HOMERS TWICE AS JACKALS RUN WINNING STREAK TO 11
Shortstop Mike DeJesus hit his first two home runs of the season and left fielder Ryan Rogowski drove in four runs as the New Jersey Jackals (15-8) defeated Les Capitales de Quebec 12-1 on Monday night at Stade Municipal. The win, New Jersey’s 11th in a row, ties the Can-Am League record for longest winning streak set by the North Shore Spirit in 2006. DeJesus lifted a solo homer in the top of the first as New Jersey opened up the scoring. Then in the fifth, he connected on a three-run shot to extend New Jersey’s lead to 5-1. DeJesus later added an RBI double to finish the evening 3-for-6 with five RBIs. Meanwhile, Rogowski laced a pair of run-scoring doubles in a 2-for-4 night at the dish.
Jackals starter Dave Qualben (2-2) earned the win in his fourth start of the season, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. New Jersey relievers Romas Hicks, Giuseppe Granitto and Mark Suchowiecki combined to toss 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Quebec starter Ivan Blanco (0-3) took the loss after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 frames.
For New Jersey, second baseman Marcus Sanders, designated hitter Juan Tejeda, and catcher Matt Lauderdale also drove in runs.
The Jackals and Capitales continue their three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Municipal when New Jersey sends southpaw A.J.
