RE-DEFINING 'MANIC MONDAY': JACKALS PAY $4,000 OF FAN'S MORTGAGE
The New Jersey Jackals proudly announce that Theresa Clarke of Elmwood Park, NJ has been selected as the August 10 ‘Mortgage Monday’ winner. She will receive two months of her mortgage payments -- a total of $4,000 -- from the Jackals.
“This is the most amazing time of my life!” exclaimed Clarke following the check presentation ceremony on the field that took place after the conclusion of the Jackals’ lopsided 12-1 victory in Monday's game at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Jackals staff members joined beloved mascot Jack the Jackal in presenting Clarke with the commemorative check.
“Never in my whole life did I think this would happen,” Clarke said. “I thought it was a dream -- I couldn’t believe it really happened. I still can’t believe it! It is just a really amazing feeling.”
“I [filled out the entry form] and thought, ‘Well forget this. It will never happen.’ I was in the arcade room at the ice cream stand when the winner was announced, and a couple of my friends ran over telling me I won, but I didn’t believe them at all -- until I heard the announcement that I had three more outs to claim the prize!”
Clarke came out to the ballpark with the Elmwood Park Girls Softball League group, which has been attending Jackals games “for the past three or four years.” Clarke explained, “We used to go to the Yankees games, but that got way too expensive.” Instead, the group has been taking advantage of the Yogi Berra Stadium party decks, hosting ‘Jackals Park Picnics’ -- featuring all-you-can-eat barbecue fare along with unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
With three children all attending private schools, Clarke said of the $4,000 payout, “This is huge! It covers almost an entire year’s tuition for one of the kids. I hate to deprive them, and each participates in different travel sports teams. I’m constantly writing checks for all that, so my balance seems to always be a negative…you work and work but you can’t seem to get ahead. Now we have an extra $4,000 to fall back on!”
The New Jersey Jackals released their 2009 schedule with the promise to fans that there would be something special every day this season at Yogi Berra Stadium.
"All of us in the Jackals organization are sports fans, too,” explained Larry Hall, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Jackals. “We're personally coping with many of the same difficulties as our fans through these tough economic times. That being said, we knew we needed to do something special this year -- something to really make a difference.”
“First and foremost, our ticket prices have stayed exactly the same as they were for the last couple of years. To make 2009 even more memorable, we have worked very hard to have something special for our fans every day of the week. In addition to the incredible 'Mortgage Mondays' promotion -- which we're just so excited about -- we're giving fans the chance to 'getaway' by giving out two round-trip airline tickets on 'Flyaway Fridays,' and we've brought back our buy-one-get-one-free ticket promotion on 'Two-for-Tuesdays.'"
Fans had the chance to participate in ‘Mortgage Monday’ at every Monday home game, with August 10 the final opportunity to win this season.
